LAS VEGAS — SMS Audio, the audio company helmed by rapper 50 Cent, will launch its first athletic-themed headphones during International CES.
The three-model Sport line will consist of both wired and wireless versions. Staying in tune with the company’s naming nomenclature, the wired models will be known as the Street by 50 Sport and the wireless will be the Sync by 50 Sport. Both will feature SMS Audio partner Carmelo Anthony as the signature name, said 50 Cent in a release.
The Street by 50 Sport headphones will come in two wired configurations: an on-ear version and an in-ear version. The on-ear headphones will feature 40mm drivers and leather memory-foam ear pads that are IPX4 rated for sweat resistance. SMS Audio said they have a “sweat-proof chamber within the ear cup,” and ear protectors are also included for even more protection from sweat.
They have a tangle-free cord with in-line mic, and they come with a carry case, and a towel. Three colors will be offered for a $179 suggested retail.
The Street by 50 in-ear wired headphones ($79.99), which will also come in three colors and have an in-line mic, feature an ear hook design with IPX4-rated sweat protection. Three sizes of ear hooks and ear tips are included, along with a neoprene carry case.
Meanwhile, the Sync by 50 Sport in-ear headphones will use Bluetooth for wireless connectivity. Features include sweat-repelling nano technology that allows for immersion in water; an in-line Apple-compatible remote and mic on a tangle-free cable; and three sizes of ear hooks and ear tips. Three colors will be offered for $159.
All three models will be available in the second quarter. As is custom for SMS Audio, a portion of all U.S. sales will support Feeding America, a domestic hunger-relief charity.
