Totowa, N.J. — Digital frame maker Smartparts will ship an 8-inch digital frame with new onboard software to dealers this month.
New SyncPix software lets the SPX8 frame automatically resize images and save them to its 256MB of internal memory. Pictures are automatically rotated as well to ensure proper orientation. The software lets consumers organize the images stored on internal memory by placing them in dedicated folders. It also remembers which memory cards and which images it has downloaded to avoid saving duplicate images.
The SPX8 features a motion detector that can put the frame in sleep mode to conserve energy.
The $179 suggested frame sports an 800 by 600 resolution display with a 500:1 contrast ration and a 4:3 aspect ratio. It supports MP3 and video playback and features memory card slots and USB host/slave ports.
The model will initially be carried at Circuit City, Staples and Ritz Camera stores.
The company plans to keep its OptiPix line of digital frames on the market as an entry level offering, said Stefan Guelpen, Smartparts president. Those frames ship with desktop software for image organizing and resizing.
