Siemens Converges Wireless, Wired Groups

New York — Siemens will merge its wired and wireless businesses in the U.S. to improve its ability to offer converged wireless/wired products and services, particularly “IP converged solutions,” the company said.

The merger is expected to be complete by October 1.

The wireless business, previously called Siemens Information and Communications Mobile, develops cellular and cordless-phone handsets and wireless-phone infrastructure. The business is split between San Diego and Boca Raton, Fla. The wired business unit, called Siemens Information and Communications Networks, develops wireline infrastructure equipment and offers services and products, including LANs, for enterprises.

Siemen’s handset headquarters will remain in San Diego, but the headquarters for the merged entity, called Siemens Communications, will be based in Boca Raton.
