Sharp Ships Broadband-Based Fax Machine

Mahwah, N.J. — Sharp Electronics introduced a next-generation fax machine-based multifunction device that combines traditional fax functionality with broadband capabilities.

The Broadband fax, model UX-B800SE, uses a broadband connection to send a fax directly to an e-mail address or another fax machine. It is shipping this month with a $159 suggested retail price.

The user connects the Broadband fax to a broadband source and phone line and uses a built-in keyboard to type in the e-mail address, the company said.

The product also features a scanner, enabling users to send documents in PDF or TIFF formats.

The Broadband fax can operate in conjunction with a computer or as part of a home or small office network.

The inkjet-based fax machine can send two-sided documents at a six ppm transmission rate and features a 100-page memory. To ensure that only the proper recipient can read a fax, Sharp has included a security feature requiring a password be input before a document can be printed.
