Sharp Recalls Three 27-Inch TVs

Mahwah, N.J. — Sharp, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced a voluntary recall of three of its 27-inch conventional tube televisions.

The models recalled include the 27RS50, 27RS100 and CSR5027 and were sold in electronics stores, department stores and mass retail outlets from March 2001 through February 2005 for about $250.

In a statement announcing the recall, the Commission said the TVs’ power button can break, “allowing objects to be inserted through the opening” which could ignite and pose a fire hazard.

To date Sharp has received 23 reports of fires. According to the statement, one incident is reported to have resulted in $20,000 in property damage while the others resulted in minor property damage.

No injuries have been reported.
