Sharp Enters LCD TV/Monitor Market

Huntington Beach, Calif. – Sharp Systems of America introduced its first LCD TV/computer monitors, along with a new Actius notebook computer.

Sharp is designating its new monitor class LTM for LCD/TV monitor. The initial launch includes the 17-inch LL-M17W1 and the 15-inch LL-M15X1. Both are now shipping with suggested retail prices of $749 and $449.

The 17-inch model has a wide-aspect TFT LCD, built in TV tuner, remote control, built-in stereo speakers, RCA composite video, S-Video, component video and an antenna/cable input. The 15-inch version drops the wide-aspect screen and only has the RCA composite, S-Video and cable/antenna inputs.

The new Actius MC22 notebook, now shipping with a $1,399 suggested retail price, is powered by an AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+ processor, has 256MB of DDR-SDRAM, 40GB hard drive and a 12.1-inch display. Other features are a DVD/CD-RW drive and 802.11g wireless networking.
