Sharp Decks Grand Central With Aquos Cheer

New York — Sharp kicked off the holiday season Monday by unveiling “the Aquos Experience” display — a Christmas tree composed of 43 different Aquos LCD TVs in screen sizes from 19 inches to 52 inches — as part of the Kaleidoscope Light Show taking place through the month of December in Grand Central Terminal, here.

Christmas carols on the train station’s massive walls and arched ceiling.

An estimated 700,000 commuters and tourists are expected to file past the promotional holiday decoration each day it is on display.

Sharp is also contributing up to $100,000 toward The Hope Program. The charity helps impoverished, unemployed individuals in New York City find job training, employment and job advancement with the help of sponsor partners, including Sharp.

Sharp is working with The Hope Program to establish a new Green Collar initiative, which will train people in need to find employment in emerging environmental-related areas, including solar-panel installations and recycling programs, two areas where Sharp has ongoing interests.

“We have built the Aquos Experience as a symbol of hope here in the heart of one of New York City’s most historic landmarks,” said Daisuke “Doug” Koshima, Sharp Electronics CEO and chairman. “The Aquos Experience is about much more than just beautiful images. When Sharp embarked on this project we felt it was important to give back to the community during these difficult economic times.”

The Aquos Experience display stands 26 feet high and is located on the bridge between the Grand Central Terminal’s main concourse and Vanderbilt Hall. The 43 screens that make up the tree display kaleidoscopic images in two- to three-minute vignettes. The uniform scenic imagery displayed by the screens was developed by Fujisankei Communications International and spans the height and width of the structure.

Sharp is conducting a sweepstakes throughout the display period, where passersby are encouraged to sign up for a chance to win one of the 43 LCD TVs in the display. Sharp will donate $1 for each entry form it receives, up to $100,000, to the Hope Program.
