SED Names New CEO

Lawrenceville, Ga. – SED International has appointed Robert O’Malley president/CEO, effective today.

He succeeds Jonathan Elster, who had held the post for the past three years.

The change follows a $2 million loss in the distributer’s most recent quarter and lower net earnings for its full fiscal year.

O’Malley has more than 30 years of industry experience, including 19 in various executive roles at IBM. He later served as U.S. marketing and product management senior VP at TechData, and was president/CEO of haptics app provider Immersion. He most recently led InFocus, a global manufacturer of data and video imaging products, as chief executive.

O’Malley has also served as chairman of CompTIA, the IT Channel Association supporting channel solution providers, distributors and manufacturers.

“Bob’s strong experience as a public company CEO and deep industry relationships were important considerations in the board’s recruitment process,” said SED chairman Samuel Kidston.

Kidston said O’Malley will be responsible for returning the company to profitable growth, improving gross margins, and driving improved return on invested capital (ROIC) and shareholder value.

O’Malley noted that “SED’s reputation for the past 32 years as a quality distributor backed by excellence in customer support provides a great foundation from which to grow.” He also pointed to new opportunities presented by cloud computing service models, converged data, voice and video, and mobile devices and applications.

SED is a multinational distributor of computer technology, consumer electronics and small appliances, serving a customer base of over 10,000 channel partners and retailers in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean. With operations in California, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Texas, Bogota, Colombia, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, the company also offers custom-tailored supply chain management services for the e-commerce, business-to-business and business-to-consumer channels.
