Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears Holdings has named Sony veteran
Steve Haber senior VP and president of its home appliances business.
Haber most recently served as executive VP of Sony’s consumer
product group.
In his new role he will “lead the company’s effort to continue
driving profitable growth in its industry-leading appliance business,” the
retailer said.
Haber is Sears’ fourth appliance head in as many years. He
succeeds Dev Mukherjee, who will stay on to assist in the transition, the
company said.
“Home Appliances is a
cornerstone of our business, and our Kenmore brand is in the lives of 100
million Americans,” said Ron Boire, Sears’ executive VP, chief merchandising
officer, president of its Sears and Kmart formats, and himself a Sony alumnus. “Steve
is a proven executive with a deep understanding of what is important to
customers — value, quality, innovation and selection. These are qualities we
pride ourselves on at Sears Holdings.”
Added Haber, “I am excited about the opportunity to join Sears
Holdings, with iconic brands like Kenmore. Sears is an industry leader in
appliances and I believe we can further that position with great products, and
by delivering a great experience to our customers and members.”
At Sony he was responsible for the sales and strategic direction
of the company’s multibillion dollar U.S. consumer products business, which
included the home products, digital imaging and audio, IT, media applications
and solutions business divisions. Before that he was president of Sony’s digital
reading business division, with responsibility for the global direction and
development of the company’s e-reader hardware, software and content.
Haber launched his CE career as an undergraduate in 1980 by
founding Trolley Stereo, an A/V retail and mail-order business.
