Sears Continues Majap Promos

Hoffman Estates,
Ill. – Sears will continue its ongoing majap promotions this Labor Day weekend
with discounts of as much 40 percent.

The biggest sales
are reserved for Energy Star-rated models under the Maytag, Samsung and
Whirlpool brands, which will be offered at 30 percent off regular retail. Sears
is also offering 20 percent off all other Energy Star appliances, and 15
percent off the balance of its majap assortment.

In addition, the
retailer is offering $700 off LG’s Energy Star-qualified WM2701H front-load
washer and companion dryer.

The chain will
also take an additional 10 percent off most appliance purchases made with a
Sears credit card.

Sears said the
promotion is part of its “Big Switch” program, whose goal is to trade up
households to 5 million Energy Star-qualified appliances that could save
families over $2,500 on their utility bills over five years.

“Through The Big
Switch program, Sears is committed to helping customers reduce their utility
bills and do their part to help the environment,” said Sears home appliances
president Doug Moore. “Given these economic times, our customers are looking
for value and to benefit from our Labor Day event. This year will be no
different with our everyday best prices guaranteed on all the top brands.”

According to John
White, executive appliance VP for the Brand Source buying group, aggressive and
prolonged price promotions by Sears and the two major home-improvement chains
have cost all majap retailers about 5 points of margin. The big-box promotions
are an effort to increase traffic, storewide revenue and majap market share
amid a period of soft appliance demand, he said.
