Seagate Bows Showcase DVR Storage

New Orleans — Seagate Technology will introduce its Seagate Showcase storage solution, a new series of products designed to extend the storage capacity of a DVR.

Seagate said the Showcase line will be designed to be compatible with Motorola’s e-SATA-capable high-definition DVR set-top portfolio.

The products will initially launch with capacities up to 1TB, said to help consumers keep up to 200 hours of additional HD content or 1,000 hours of additional standard-definition content. The plug-and-play devices can connect via USB 2.0 or via an e-SATA connection.

According to a release, the Showcase family will feature Seagate’s recently announced Pipeline HD Series of hard drives built for DVRs. The Windows Vista-certified drives are designed to feature quiet acoustics, low-power operation and the ability to support up to 12 simultaneous HD streams.

Seagate and Motorola are displaying the 1TB Seagate Showcase drive in the Motorola booth at The Cable Show ’08, being held here this week.

The drives will be available for purchase on the Seagate Web site beginning in the third quarter.
