Seagate Bows Network Storage Drive

Scotts Valley, Calif. — Seagate has introduced its Maxtor Central Axis network drive, a network storage drive that provides up to 1TB of storage to back up every computer in a home. The drive features media streaming capabilities and a remote access service.

Since the device is connected to a router rather than an individual computer, the company said files can be accessed and stored from both Mac OS X and Windows operated computers. Beyond just computers, the device can also be comnnected to entertainment devices that are DLNA compliant, like certain videogame consoles.

“Our Central Axis solution is a snap to set up and use for nearly every member of the family. Any household with a network would benefit from having a way to back up every PC in the home and share files between them,” said BenHur Castor, product line management director for Seagate’s consumer solution division. “Back up is essential to make certain photos, videos and other important files live beyond the life of an individual computer. The Central Axis network drive provides a complete solution for back up storage as well as file sharing in the home and from the road.”

The Maxtor Central Axis 1TB capacity drive is expected to be available in the United States in July for a suggested retail of $329.
