Sanyo Ships Third Gen. Multimedia Camera

Chatsworth, Calif. — Sanyo announced that it is now shipping its third-generation digital still/video camera to select dealers in the United States.

The VPC-C5 Digital Media Camera combines a 5-megapixel digital still camera with an MPEG-4 video recorder. It records the video at VGA resolution at 30 frames per second to SD memory cards (128MB included).

The C5 can snap digital stills while recording video and records 48kHz, 16-bit, two-channel audio.

It also features a 5x optical zoom, digital image stabilization, a 2-inch trans-reflective LCD and auto-macro mode for focusing to 10cm,

The still camera features include seven scene modes, 15 manual focus settings, super macro for focusing to 1cm and PictBridge compatibility.

The product will initially be available through Sharper Image, Apple Stores and Amazon.com for a suggested $699.99.

The C5 will ship with a docking station and infrared remote control for transferring data to a PC or viewing stills and video on a television. It features an S-video output and USB 2.0 connectivity and can serve as a Web camera.
