Sanyo introduced six SD card-based camcorders at a press event here last week. It plans to ship the models to dealers in March.

All the new Xacti models include dedicated buttons for switching between photo and video modes. Sanyo will offer both horizontal and vertical form factors this year.

Both feature 9-megapixel still shooting, a 12 fps still-image burst mode, high-speed video recording at 240 fps or 600 fps, and face detection.

They offer a 10x optical zoom for still photos and a 16x “advanced zoom” for video with digital stabilization available for both stills and video.

The compact VPC-TH1 (horizontal) and vertical CG10 both offer 1,280 by 720p recording at 30 fps.

The TH1 ($299) features a 30x optical zoom lens and a battery that supports 3 hours and 20 minutes worth of continuous recording. It can capture 2-megapixel stills at 13 fps and features face detection, a 3-inch LCD and digital stabilization. It will be sold in silver and blue.

The CG10, for $199 (black and pink), will feature 10-megapixel still photo capture, a 5x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD, face detection, digital stabilization and a burst mode of 7 fps.

Finally, the company will offer a pair of waterproof HD camcorders, the VPC-WH1 and CA9. Both record at 1,280 by 720p at 30fps.

The WH1 ($399, blue and yellow) can be submerged in up to 10 feet of water for one hour. The horizontal camcorder offers a 30x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, 2-megapixel still photo capture, face detection and an HDMI output. The battery can record for up to three hours and 20 minutes.
