Chatsworth, Calif. — Sanyo’s Presentation Displays unit introduced Tuesday a portable widescreen WXGA LCD projector incorporating high-speed 802.11n wireless LAN capability for video streaming and other applications.
The PLC-WXU700 projector — which offers 1,280 by 800 WXGA resolution, 3800 lumens of brightness
and compatibility with the Windows Vista network projector function — is said to be the first projector to offer IEEE802.11n high-speed wireless LAN, which significantly increases transmission speeds currently available for portable projectors with wireless functionality.
The ultraportable unit, which will be available in June at a $2,995 suggested retail, allows for seamless video playback using advanced video streaming, for playback of video stored on a computer’s hard drive even as file is being streamed, or downloaded to the projector, Sanyo said.
Video streaming and playback is compatible with MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and WMV file types.
“The widescreen WXGA ultraportable projector market is expected to grow significantly in 2009,” stated Mark Holt, Sanyo Presentation Technologies VP and general manager. “The PLC-WXU700 was designed with the most advanced features to meet the needs of the market with the industry’s first high-speed ‘n’ wireless functionality, video streaming and the highest brightness in its class for superior images in any environment.”
The projector incorporates Windows Embedded CE 6.0 software enabling use as a network projector on any computer running Windows Vista. Sanyo said the content on any PC monitor from a LAN can be transmitted wirelessly to the projector, eliminating a complicated setup with special programs or drivers.
Additionally, images and video saved on a portable USB memory drive can be read and projected even without a computer, using the projector’s Memory Viewer Function.
Inserting Sanyo’s USB memory drive into any PC or MAC with wireless capability, will create a wireless connection with the computer as only a single click (in most cases).
Other features include an easy setup function, with auto input search and auto vertical keystone correction. Instant-on upon connection to a power source, a widescreen native aspect ratio, picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture functions, and a 1.6x optical zoom lens.
