SanDisk Intros Racing-Sponsored Memory Cards

Milpitas, Calif. — Flash-memory maker SanDisk has partnered with Italian motorcycle racing team Ducati to offer a line of high-speed memory cards and USB flash drives.

The Ducati Extreme CompactFlash and SD Plus cards will offer the fastest data transfer rates currently on offer from SanDisk, the company said. Product packing will feature emblems from Ducati, an Italian motorcycle racing company.

The CF line will be available in 4GB and 8GB capacities with data transfer speeds of 25MBps while the SD Plus card will ship in 4GB capacities, achieving a 20MBps transfer rate. SD Plus cards snap open to reveal a USB pin for connecting to standard USB ports.

According to SanDisk, the new CF card is 5MB/s faster than its new Extreme IV card, previously the company’s fastest.

The cards will ship in August through photo specialty, “high-end niche” dealers and high-end department stores alongside Ducati network shots and online.

The 4GB CF card will retail for a suggested $164, the 8GB CF card will retail for $314. The 4GB SD plus card will retail for $129.

SanDisk will also ship a 4GB Ducati Edition USB flash drive, styled like a Ducati motorcycle, with a 20MBps transfer speed. It will ship in August for a suggested $129.
