SanDisk Intros High-End CF Cards

Sunnyvale, Calif. – Flash memory manufacturer SanDisk announced two new lines of CompactFlash cards today, aimed at the high-end digital photographer.

The SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash and Ultra II cards will be available in capacities of 256MB, 512MB and 1GB capacities and feature a minimum write speed of up to 9MB per second and a read speed of 10MB per second.

The Extreme cards are designed, as the name suggests, for durability and will be distributed only to North American photo retail stores. According to the company, the Extreme cards can endure temperature ranges of –13 degrees Fahrenheit to 185 degrees Fahrenheit and employ the same RTV silicone as the company’s industrial grade cards for greater shock absorption.

The Extreme cards also ship with a carrying case, image recovery software and a dedicated toll-free tech support line. Pricing for the cards has not been set.

The Ultra II cards are set to ship in September as a replacement for the company’s Ultra line, with identical pricing.
