Samsung’s L.A. Ditch The DSLR Day Sets Record

LOS ANGELES — Samsung changed the record books at a recent West Coast version of its “Ditch The DSLR” event, by capturing a new record chain of 283 consecutive selfies to make the Guinness Book of World Records.

The event, which took place at the iconic Hollywood and Highland promenade, brought “America’s Got Talent” star Nick Cannon and “Dancing With The Stars” judge Julianne Hough out to meet with Samsung fans for the selfie-shooting frenzy while also raising funds to benefit Habit for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.

Habitat L.A. received from Samsung a $50,000 donation to build and renovate more homes for low-income families and individuals throughout greater Los Angeles.

It was the second such “Ditch The DSLR” event this year, following Samsung’s similar event in New York’s Times Square last spring.

Like the New York event, LA version gave photography fans a chance to trade in their working DSLRs for a topof- the-line Samsung mirrorless compact system camera (CSC), model NX30, or the even smaller mirrorless interchangeable- lens camera (ILC), the NX Mini.

Both cameras happen to be designed for selfie taking as well as capturing professional-quality images and videos.

Hundreds of photo enthusiasts began lining up overnight for the chance to trade in their bulky DSLR cameras for one of the compact NX mirrorless CSCs.
