Samsung Unveils Point-&-Shoot Camera Trio

Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung Electronics
America recently unveiled a pair of 12.2-megapixel digital still cameras with
dual LCD screens and a super-slim model with 5x optical zoom and built-in
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and DLNA connectivity.

To simplify self-portrait photography, the Samsung
DualView TL225 ($349 suggested retail) and TL220 ($299) feature one LCD on the
front of the camera, in addition to a second one on the back.

The CL65 ($399) features an ultra-compact form factor, a long 5x focal
length zoom lens and is billed as the first digital still camera with built-in
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and DLNA connectivity support.

All three cameras will ship to retailers the in early September.

The compact dual-screen models each have a 1.5-inch LCD screen in the front
of the camera to bring the photographer into the picture.

When in Child
mode, the front LCD plays an animated clip to capture a child’s attention as
the photo is taken.

Similarly, a Shutter Info function displays a smiley face on the
front LCD when the photographer has the shutter button pushed halfway down,
giving the subject a signal to smile for the shot.

The TL225 model includes
a 3.5-inch touchscreen display on the back with up to four times the resolution
of traditional digital cameras, Samsung said.

The TL220 also includes haptic vibration feedback for ease of use. It
features a 4.6x wide-angle Schneider-Kreuznach lens starting at 27mm.

Also included is Samsung’s advanced Dual Image Stabilization (IS)
technology that combines both optical (OIS) and digital image stabilizers to
produce sharp images with less confusion.

“These cameras are the very first of their
kind,” stated Sang Jin Park, Samsung Digital Imaging CEO. “It has become more common for the photographer to
switch roles and become the subject of his or her photo, especially given the
rise in popularity of self-portraits or profile pictures for use with today’s
popular social networking sites.”

The cameras also include Samsung’s Smart Gesture user interface with
built-in Gravity sensor, allowing a simple tap on the front LCD to activate the
camera’s self portrait mode with smile detection.

By tapping the front panel and smiling, the camera is set to take the shot
automatically.

The cameras also include Smile Shot, Smart face recognition and Smart auto
models.

The camera was also designed to perform a number of functions by tilting it
in a certain direction. This will enable viewing a saved image.

Samsung’s Smart auto recognizes 16 different potential scenes, analyzes key
elements of the composition and subject, and selects the most appropriate scene
settings.

The Smart face recognition technology will memorize up to 20 faces and
adjust the focus and exposure to the highest-ranked faces in the camera’s
memory. It also allows users to sort images by registered faces and scroll
through to find images of people in their Smart Album instead of viewing every
single photo.

Both cameras also include 720p HD video recording at 30 fps in H.264 format.
HDMI connectivity is added for easy hook up to an HDTV or HD monitor.

The CL65, meanwhile, features built-in geo-tagging, Bluetooth
2.0, DLNA compatibility and Wi-Fi connectivity, to simplify
photo sharing with friends and family.

The geo-tagging tracks the
locations where photos were taken. The CL65 displays the city on the camera’s LCD screen, showing
the location where the photo is being taken and serving as a reference for photo
archiving and playback. With the embedded PC software package “intelli-studio,”
users can also easily view, edit and manage their pictures right on the camera
before uploading them to popular photo-sharing sites, such as Picasa.

The DLNA compatibility and Wi-Fi connectivity enable users to send and share pictures at home an on the
road.

Using Bluetooth 2.0 technology, users can wirelessly beam
images to other compatible devices.

The CL65 includes a 3.5-inch LCD touch-screen with a
resolution of 1,152K pixels.

Samsung’s Smart Gesture User
Interface enables accessing key features with a tilt of the camera.

The CL65 features a 12.2-megapixel
CCD and a 35mm Schneider‑Kreuznach lens, internal 5x optical zoom with advanced dual image stabilization
technology, and 720p HD video recording at
30 fps in H.264 format.

A one-touch auto-focus system puts
allows the user to pinpoint the exact area to focus on by touching the location
on the LCD screen.
