Samsung Targets Tablet To Kids

Seoul, South Korea – Samsung will compete with a growing number of kids’ tablets with the introduction of its first kid-targeted tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids.

The yellow tablet will feature preloaded Samsung-designed educational apps, parental controls, and access to applications available through the Kids Samsung Apps store. The tablet will also access Google Play and feature the full array of Google services.

Pricing wasn’t disclosed.

The 7-inch Android 4.1 tablet will be available in Korea in early September, followed by China, Europe, U.S., Africa, South America and South East Asia.

Pre-loaded apps include educational, games, entertainment and e-book apps. An application manager lets parents select the apps that their kids can use.  A time-management lets parents to set specific time periods for using the tablet. When a designated time period is up , a password-protected lock screen appears, requiring an adult to unlock the device.

An optional Kids Case offers a kids-friendly grip and multiple stand options. The case comes with a C Pen for drawing on the tablet.

The Wi-Fi-equipped tablet features 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, WSVGA 1,024 by 600 RFT display, 8GB internal memory plus 32GB MicroSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n with dual-band N, Wi-Fi channel bonding, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, 3-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and 4,000 mAh lithium-ion battery. It measures 4.37 inches by 7.4 inches by 0.39 inches and weighs 1o.65 ounces.
