Samsung NX300 Hits Retail

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung said Monday it is now shipping its NX300 midrange mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera with integrated Wi-Fi.

The new compact system camera, which replaces the NX210, carries a $750 suggested retail, including a 20-50mm kit lens.

In tandem with the NX300 send-off, Samsung also announced it has signed on “the world’s fastest man,” Olympian Usain Bolt, to appear in global promotional initiatives for the camera and the NX Junior Photographer campaign.

Samsung said it will work with Bolt “to build on the athlete’s natural love of being behind the camera” and will see the six-time gold medal winning Olympian showcase the Usain Bolt Foundation to provide equipment and lessons to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Samsung said it is also shipping a new 45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens ($500 suggested retail) featuring seven elements in six groups, and 3D shooting capability at a flip of a switch. The lens uses Samsung’s exclusive iFunction feature, allowing fine adjustments at the touch of a button

The NX300 is a retro-looking compact system camera that includes Samsung’s Smart 2.0 technologies with dual-band Wi-Fi and intuitive operation with new 3D Still and Movie Capture, an improved hybrid AF system and a premium retro modern design.

Also new are a 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen and tilt display and a 20.3-megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor.

The speedier hybrid contrast/phase detect AF system features 247 contrast points and 105 phase detect points. The system enables the camera to increase its continuous/burst shooting speed to 8.6 fps.

Low-light shooting capability has been boosted with an advanced ISO range to 25,600.
