Samsung Galaxy S III Gets First Prepaid Option

Dallas – MetroPCS became the first no-contract carrier to offer Samsung’s highly promoted Galaxy S III premium Android smartphone.

“MetroPCS is the first carrier to offer the S III at no contract,” a spokesperson said.

MetroPCS’s 4G LTE S III became available today through all MetroPCS stores, online at MetroPCS.com and authorized wireless stores. The carrier hasn’t announced plans for sales through national retailers, a spokesperson told TWICE.

Combining total costs of both the smartphone and current MetroPCS LTE rate plans costing $30 to $70/month, users can save between $1,200 and $2,000 over two years compared with other LTE carriers, the company contended.

The phone, launched earlier this year with Samsung Telecommunication America’s biggest marketing campaign ever, is available through the four national carriers as well as regional carriers C Spire and U.S. Cellular. The phone was also picked up recently by MVNO Ting, which offers postpaid plans but charges only for actual usage and sells the S III at an unsubsidized price.

Features include Android 4.0 OS, 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, 8-megapixel back camera and mobile hot spot to share 4G access with up to 10 Wi-Fi devices.
