Samsung Debuts First Memory Cards

Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung
Electronics America introduced its first lines of SD and MicroSD cards on
Friday.

The Samsung-branded
cards feature a brushed-metal design and come in two lines: the High Speed series
or the Plus Extreme Speed series, both of which deliver up to 24MBps read
speeds on 4GB or higher cards, the company said.

Max write speeds are
listed as 13MBps for the High Speed line and 21MBps for the Plus Extreme Speed
line.

The cards are also said
to be waterproof, shock-proof, and magnet-proof — able to survive up to 24
hours in water and withstand the force of a 1.6-ton vehicle.

Cards in the High Speed
line will range from 2GB to 32GB, with pricing from $9.99 to $89.99. The Plus
Extreme Speed cards will come in just 8GB and 16GB versions at $29.99 and
$54.99, respectively.
