Samsung Bows 55W” ‘DCR’ Plasma

Indianapolis – The first 1080p rear projection DLP HDTV set, and a 55W-inch HDTV plasma set with fully integrated ATSC tuning and CableCARD slot, will be among the product highlights on display in Samsung booth at this week’s CEDIA Expo.

Samsung’s HLP5697 56W-inch 1080p DLP HDTV set will feature the company’s unique pedestal base cabinet design, built-in ATSC, NTSC and QAM tuning and a digital CableCARD slot digital-cable-ready compatibility.

The set is among the first to implement Texas Instruments xHD3 Digital Micromirror Device (DMD), which when coupled with Samsung’s fifth-generation optical engine design, will produce 1080p image with virtual elimination of visible micromirror cross hatching in the projected image. The contrast ratio was said to be 3,000:1.

Samsung is now projecting a first quarter 2005 delivery on the product at expected street prices of between $5,499-$5,999.

The company will also show new flat-panel products in the 37W-inch HP-3761, the 42W-inch HP-P4261 and the 55W-inch HP-P5581.

The HP-P5581 is one of Samsung’s first fully integrated HD plasma models. It features a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,000 cd/m2 brightness, Samsung’s DNIe video processing circuitry and DVI with HDCP and dual component video inputs. Pricing will be announced.

The 42W-inch HP-P4261 is an HD plasma monitor with dual NTSC tuners, 12-watt audio system, 900:1 contrast ratio, 1,000 cd/m2 brightness and 1,366-by-768 resolution.

The 32W-inch model HP-P3761 HDTV monitor offers dual NTSC tuners, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,000 cd/m2 brightness, DNIe and a 10-watt audio amp with built in speakers.

The company will again display its 46W-inch HD-level LCD TV monitor (LTP468W), which is billed as one of the industry’s largest, and the resolution is said to be 1080p (1920-by-1080).

The LTP468W, which just started shipping to dealers at a $9,999 suggested retail, features an 800:1 contrast ratio and 500 cd/m2 brightness. Pixel response time is said to be 12-miliseconds, which is ideal for fast motion video.

Other features include dual NTSC tuners with picture-in-picture, and HDMI with HDCP, DVI and dual component video inputs.

Other models include 17W-inch HDTV and 22W-inch LCD TV monitors. The 17W-inch model LT-P1795W features 1280-by-768 pixel resolution, a 600:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness, NTSC tuner and two component video inputs.
