Samsung Adds UHD PC Monitor

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung introduced Monday a new UD590-series PC monitor, featuring Ultra HD 4K resolution.

The company also revealed a new 390 series of FullHD monitors in the 23.6-inch and 27-inch screen sizes.

The 28-inch UD590 Ultra HD monitor’s high resolution will target customers requiring the highest resolution levels for work or play, such as gamers, photo enthusiasts and visual professionals, graphic designers and architects, among others, the company said.

The UD590 (which will carry a $699 suggested retail) features a 28-inch screen size offering 3,840 by 2,160 resolution (four times the level of FullHD), 1 billion colors (64 times more colors than offered by conventional monitors) and 1ms response time.

“Samsung is a worldwide leader in display technology renowned for our UHD 4K TVs. The UD590 brings UHD 4K technology to our monitor lineup, offering unparalleled imagery right at your desk,” said Ron Gazzola, Samsung consumer IT marketing VP. “It offers a viewing experience unlike any other, perfect for consumers looking to enjoy premium display quality in their homes. We’re also introducing several other consumer monitors this year to offer a wide range of high performing options to meet the needs of any user.”

The company also announced the SD390 FullHD monitors in the 23.6- and 27-inch screen sizes, which will start shipping in April at suggested retails starting at $249.

Samsung uses PLS panels, which offer wide viewing angles and higher brightness, and super narrow bezels.

Meanwhile, Samsung said the UD590 Ultra HD monitor is optimized for video game play by eliminating motion blur, judder or ghosting. The monitor produces no lag while details appear in sharp Ultra HD clarity, the company said.

The monitor includes Samsung’s Picture-in-Picture 2.0 offering picture-in-picture windows for easy multitasking and the ability to adjust resolution, screen position and sound.

Users can watch videos that maintain 100 percent of the source resolution without down-scaling. That is said to result in crisper and clearer picture-in-picture visuals.

The UD590, which has a metallic finish, also allows connecting two PCs at once.
