Edison, N.J. — Sakar has acquired the Vivitar brand name and intellectual property from Syntax-Brillian.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although Sakar said it did not purchase Vivitar’s equipment, facilities of receivables.
According to Sakar, the acquisition will allow it to offer higher-priced, Vivitar-branded camera SKUs in the $70 to $300 range. The company also plans to introduce new Vivitar-branded consumer products, including camera accessories and digital photo frames, in addition to exploring licensing opportunities to complement the firm’s stable of licensed product.
“Linking ourselves to Vivitar will strengthen our presence on the retail shelf while also enabling retailers to buy more product from a single source,” said Ralph Sasson, COO, in a statement announcing the acquisition.
