Roku Brings XD Player To Retail Stores

Saratoga, Calif. –

Roku

said
Wednesday that it is now selling its Roku XD set-top Internet streaming player
through Best Buy, RadioShack, Fry’s and BJ’s Wholesale Club stores.

Best Buy will also carry the box on its online site.

The Roku XD is the company’s midrange streaming device and
carries an $80 suggested retail. The company sells other models online,
including the entry Roku HD box and the high-end Roku XDS.

The model now available through the aforementioned
brick-and-mortar stores will play up to 1080p HD video content, including movies
and television shows from Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus.

Music is available through the Pandora and MOG services, and
photos can be viewed via Flickr and Facebook, which are also available on the
platform.

To date, the company has sold more than 1 million players through
its consumer-direct approach launched in 2008.

“Customers can now grab a Roku off the shelf at Best Buy, take it
home, and be up and running, enjoying their favorite TV show, movie, music or
sports team in just a matt

<br>er of minutes,” stated Roku CEO Anthony Wood.

Now at retail, the Roku device will go head-to-head against
similar devices from Apple, Boxee, Logitech (GoogleTV Revue) and others.
