RIM Posts Q2 Gains

posted large gains in revenue,
operating income and net income in its second quarter ending Aug. 28 on a 45
percent gain in smartphone shipments to a record 12.1 million units.

 Revenue grew 31 percent year over year to $4.62
billion, with net income rising 67.5 percent to $796.7 million and operating
income rising 66 percent to $1.08 billion. Gross margin rose to 44.5 percent
from 44.1 percent.

 The BlackBerry subscriber base grew about 56
percent year over year to more than 50 million, with about 4.5 million net new
BlackBerry subscriber accounts added in the quarter.

 RIM reported its results in U.S. dollars
according to GAAP rules.
