Ricoh Theta Users Can Now Post To Google Maps

Denver – Ricoh and Google are adding a new dimension to the Ricoh Theta spherical point-and-shoot camera by revealing that the companies have joined forces to enable Theta spherical photos to be posted on Google+ and Google Maps.

The Ricoh Theta (available now at a $399.95 suggested retail price) is a handheld image capture device that takes 360-degree spherical images with the touch of a button. Typically, images are posted to a special site online where users can view the image on an iPad, tablet or similar device, by pointing the view screen at the area of the picture they wish to view.

The camera captures two halves of a sphere and stitches them together with software to create a single spherical shot that places the viewer in the center of the action.

With the latest announcement Ricoh Theta camera owners will be able to post spherical images to Google Maps and Google+, two services provided by Google.

Ricoh Theta apps are now compatible with Photo Sphere XMP, Google’s panoramic image standard.

The Ricoh Theta for Android Version 1.2.0, Ricoh Theta for iPhone Version 1.5.0 and Ricoh Theta for Windows/Mac Version 1.5.0, are now enabled to post spherical images to Google Maps and Google+.

Ricoh said users can also enjoy the Constellations feature, which enables them to connect spherical images to make an original Street View.

Users can post spherical images to Google Maps and Google+ by downloading the new version of the app for their connected device.
