Wal-Mart Stores Sales Rise 9.5%

Bentonville, Ark. — Sales at the Wal-Mart Stores segment of Wal-Mart increased 9.5 percent in the company’s fiscal fourth quarter, climbing to $55.5 billion, up from $50.6 billion with comp-store sales edging upward 1.4 percent.

Target Sales Jump 11.1%

Minneapolis — Strong growth and continued market share gains were heralded by retailer Target, which posted an 11.1 percent rise in fiscal fourth quarter sales, to $14.9 billion, from a year-ago $13.4 billion. Comp-store sales for the quarter rose 5.4 percent.

RadioShack Reports Higher Q4 Profit

Fort Worth, Texas — Strong sales and preservation of gross margin were the two keys to higher operating and net earnings at RadioShack during the retailer’s fourth quarter and for the year, while a dramatic overhaul of store design, assortment and systems will lead the chain to greater long-term growth, the company said.
