Report: JVC Begins Ala. Plant Layoffs

Cottondale, Ala - A JVC America plant in Tuscaloosa County, here, began issuing layoff notices to workers Tuesday, according to a report on


The report said the number of affected workers was not known, but several employees said layoffs occurred in several departments.

Company officials had not released a statement on the action as this was posted.

The plant opened in the late 1980s to manufacture VHS tapes. The 225,000-square-foot plant is currently used for optical disc replication. An additional 250,000 square feet at the site is listed as vacant, but designed for additional warehousing and manufacturing expansion, the report stated.
