Recoton has moved to expand its product reach through licensing, acquiring rights to an advanced mobile electronics technology, and leasing rights for the use of its hi-fi brands to a maker of dedicated PC speakers.
Through a technology license from Varitek Industries, Recoton, under the Jensen brand, plans to introduce late this year the Sentinel, a service product that combines cellular communication with global positioning technology, advanced on-vehicle integrated communications, and a 24-hour live-operator monitoring service that provides a variety of services, including travel information and emergency help.
This agreement with Varitek, said Recoton president Robert Borchardt, “provides a unique opportunity to broaden our product line and address what we believe is an expanding market for products, services and technology designed for the automobile.”
Separately, Recoton said it has signed a worldwide licensing agreement that gives NMB Technologies the right to use Recoton’s Acoustic Research brand on multimedia speakers it sells to PC manufacturers.
