Denon Bringing Dolby Atmos, DTS:X To $479 A/V Receiver

Mahwah, N.J. – The $479-suggested price point will be Denon’s starting price for A/V receivers with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround decoding, the company announced.

In revealing two new 7.2-channel AVRs in its opening-price S series, Denon said the $479 AVR-S710W and $579 AVR-S910W will be available in July to complement the previously announced $279 5.2-channel AVR-S510BT.

The two new models in the series, positioned as offering high value and high performance, will ship out of the box with Dolby Atmos but will get a DTS:X firmware upgrade sometime in the fall. Both 7.2-channel models will support Atmos and DTS:X playback with 5.1.2 speaker configurations. They won’t accept an add-on two-channel amp to support 5.1.4 speaker systems.

The series starts with the $279 model offering full-bandwidth 18Mbps HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, built-in Bluetooth, and upgradability to HDMI 2.0a. It’s not upgradable to DTS:X or Dolby Atmos.

Compared to the $279 AVR, the two new models add HDMI 2.0a out of the box, built-in Wi-Fi, AirPlay, DLNA 1.5, Internet Radio, Pandora, Spotify Connect, and SiriusXM. Both models also feature Apple-certified USB port, two-source/two-zone capability, quad-core 32-bit DSP processor, Audyssey MultEQ room correction, and Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Volume.

Their full-bandwidth 18Mbps HDMI 2.0a ports deliver 4K Ultra HD at 60Hz, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, HDR (High Dynamic Range), Rec.2020 color space capability, and 21:9 aspect ratio pass-through.

The $479 model features HDCP 2.2 on all six HDMI 2.0a inputs and on its HDMI 2.0a output. It’s rated at 7×80 watts into 8 ohms from 20Hz-20kHz with 0.08 percent THD.

The $579 model steps up to offer eight HDMI 2.0a inputs with HDCP 2.2, dual parallel HDMI 2.0a outputs,  analog-to-HDMI video conversion, 4K Ultra HD upscaling, a more advanced GUI, and 7×95-watt output from 20Hz-20kHz with 0.08 percent THD.

In the two models, Wi-Fi, Airplay and DLNA start at the same price point as their predecessors.
