New York – No-contract carrier Cricket has joined the list of carriers planning to offer the iPhone 5.
Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and AT&T have announced plans for Sept. 21 availability of the LTE-equipped iPhone 5 on postpaid contract plans, but Cricket plans Sept. 28 availability of the new smartphone with its no-contract service.
Cricket already offers the iPhone 4 and 4S, as does Sprint’s no-contract Virgin Mobile brand, but Virgin Mobile hasn’t yet disclosed any plans for the iPhone 5.
In June, Cricket launched the iPhone 4 and 4S, but only in the 60 markets where it operates its network, not in the remaining parts of the country where it resells Sprint service. Cricket’s iPhones are available only in Cricket-owned stores and select dealers in the 60 markets.
Cricket declined to comment on iPhone 5 distribution or pricing.
Virgin sells the iPhone 4 and 4S through select local retailers, such national retailers as RadioShack and Best Buy, and Virgin’s web store.
