Luxemborg — PC VoIP service Skype announced a new hardware partnership today with speakerphone maker Polycom to bolster its reach among business users.
The first fruit of the partnership is the co-branded Polycom Communicator, a Skype-certified USB duplex speakerphone. The unit features Polycom’s Acoustic Clarity Technology and can pull double duty, providing 22kHz audio output for PC music and games.
The Communicator is integrated with Skype calling features, with dedicated buttons to control volume, muting, picking up and hanging up on Skype calls.
The device will ship over the next two months to Polycom dealers and through Skype’s online store for a suggested $129.
According to Skype, business customers make up roughly 30 percent of its more than 100 million registered users.
