Polaroid Ships YesDVD Recorder

Minneapolis — Polaroid said it is now shipping a new DVD recorder with a built-in 80GB hard drive incorporating YesDVD technology.

Model DRM-2001G is being distributed through Wal-Mart, among other retailers, and incorporates YesDVD software technology that simplifies the process of editing “Hollywood-style” home videos to DVD with the touch of a button.

YesDVD software, which is enabled in the deck by LSI Logic’s DoMiNo media processor, uses scene detection software to determine natural chapter points and grab the first clear image in the video segment to represent that chapter. Consumers can quickly create concise and entertaining home videos, including musical backgrounds.

YesDVD technology also allows consumers to insert a finished DVD into a PC to automatically create a DVD case cover sheet featuring still shots from various scenes in the program.

In addition to YesDVD editing, the unit incorporates Principle Solution’s iActivate software, which consumers can elect (after paying a one-time $19.95 activation fee) to activate TVGuardian foul language blocking technology. The function uses closed captions to automatically cut the volume when inappropriate words are spoken in a recorded program, DVD or broadcast.

The DRM-2001G, which carries a $299.99 suggested retail price, also offers progressive-scan video output and will store up to 102 hours of content on its 80GB hard drive. The unit will play back discs recorded in the DVD, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW formats. It will also play music CDs and display JPEG images.

A front IEEE-1394 interface is included for direct digital connection to most miniDV format camcorders.
