PlayStation Mobile Games Launch Oct. 3

Tokyo – Sony Computer Entertainment announced Oct. 3 availability of the first games under its PlayStation Mobile initiative, which enables users of PlayStation Certified smartphones and tablets to download games from the PlayStation store.

The service will start in nine countries including Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia. More countries will follow.

At launch, users of PlayStation Certified mobile devices will be able to download about 30 new titles created by third-party developers and publishers as well as SCE Worldwide Studios. In Japan, games are priced from 50 yen to 850 yen (including taxes).

The initiative is promoted as delivering a PlayStation-like gaming experience on mobile devices built on the open Androids OS. The games will also work on Sony’s portable PlayStation Vita.

To date, the lineup of PlayStation Certified devices include the One X, One S and One V smartphones from HTC, eight smartphones from Sony Mobile Communications, and two Sony tablets. Asus Tek Computer and WikiPad also plan to join the PlayStation Certified license program, Sony said.

Sony also announced the participation of Fujitsu and Sharp in the program.
