PlayOn Now Supports Redbox Instant

Seattle — Online streaming software developer MediaMall Technologies said its PlayOn software is now able to access Redbox Instant, enabling viewers to leverage the on-demand video rental service with devices beyond the Xbox 360.

Beginning Wednesday, PlayOn users can watch Redbox Instant on their TV using Roku, PlayStation3, Wii, Wii U, Apple TV (via AirPlay) and other devices, without the need of an Xbox 360, Media Mall said.

PlayOn offers viewers an easy-to-use, low-cost software that delivers Internet content to TV screens, smartphones or tablets. All that is required is a Windows PC and a DLNA-complaint display device. PlayOn charges a $49.99 lifetime license (or $24.99 for an annual subscription).

Interested Redbox Instant subscribers can try PlayOn risk-free with the software’s 30-day money back guarantee.

Users must subscribe to Redbox Instant to access the content via PlayOn’s Redbox Instant Channel. The $8 monthly service provides subscribers with unlimited instant streaming movie access and four DVDs per month from traditional Redbox kiosks.

“PlayOn aims to provide users with as much accessibility to streamed media as possible,” said Jeff Lawrence, MediaMall Technologies CEO. “With PlayOn’s Redbox Instant Channel, streaming media freedom is placed in the hands of the user. People will no longer be restricted to the type of device they use to access Redbox Instant.”
