Long Beach, Calif. — Pioneer Electronics said it is offering a free AVIC-S1 portable GPS with the purchase and installation of one of its in-dash CD/navigation models.
The offer, which runs through Oct. 1, gives away a $600 portable GPS with the purchase of the Pioneer AVIC-D2 CD player/navigation system at $1,500 suggested retail price.
The promotion is unusual in that Pioneer only began shipping the portable AVIC-S1 in June. It is a full featured portable with preloaded maps of the United States and Canada, SD card slot and Bluetooth for hands free dialing.
Pioneer’s in-dash AVIC-D2 navigation system is a double-DIN CD with navigation and a built-in 6.5-inch screen.
Pioneer is also offering free installation, for up to $200, on the AVIC-D2 and the AVIC-N3 through Sept. 4.
Pioneer supplies an extensive line of in-dash car navigation models as well as the AVIC-S1, which represents its first foray into the portable market. The company is ranked as the No. 4 leading overall GPS supplier in the United States in sales to consumers from March through May, after Garmin, TomTom and Magellan according to The NPD Group, Port Washington, N.Y.
