Photo Pros Pack Photo Plus Expo

New York — The Photo Plus Expo show got under way, here, yesterday with more than 200 manufacturers pitching high-end wares to professional photographers and hardcore hobbyists.

The show, sandwiched between Photokina and International CES, was light on significant product introductions. Most vendors used the event to tweak products, hold educational seminars and announce sponsorships.

Software developer ACD Systems announced a public beta software release of its ACESee Pro Photo Manager. The new version will offer broadened support for RAW image files from the newer digital SLRs, including Sony’s Alpha A100, the Nikon D80 and D2Xs, Pentax’s K100D and K110D, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 and models from Creo Leaf, Leica, Samsung, Fujifilm and Olympus.

Another software maker, DxO Labs announced that New York-based Calumet Photographic will be the first brick-and-mortar retailer to carry their Optics Pro software. The software automatically corrects image defects caused by camera lenses. The company also announced that its latest version (V4) supports Nikon’s D80 and Canon’s Rebel XTi digital SLRs.

The software is available in a Starter, Standard and Elite edition for $79, $149 and $299, respectively.

Pentax pushed back the ship date for its previously announced 10-megapixel K10D digital SLR. The model will now ship at the end of November rather than at the beginning of the month as previously scheduled. The delay was caused by some fine tuning of the product, which incorporates several new dust reduction technologies, a Pentax spokesperson said.
