Philips: Microsoft To Back DVD+RW

Sunnyvale, Calif. – Royal Philips Electronics reported today that Microsoft would support the DVD+RW rewritable DVD format in its next edition of the Windows operating system.

Philips said the formal announcement will be made at the WinHEC developers conference this week.

Microsoft could not be reached for comment.

Philips in conjunction with Hewlett-Packard, Sony and other hardware and media makers is supporting the DVD+RW format, which is competing against several other specifications including DVD-RAM and DVD-RW to become the defacto industry standard.
