Philips & Gibson Detail Rebranding, Restructuring

ST. JULIAN’S, MALTA – Philips and its sometime symbiotic partner, Gibson, each announced branding, product and organizational restructuring at the IFA Global Press Conference.

Philips, which has shed its various A/V businesses, announced it had split into two entities: Royal Philips HealthTech, which will concentrate on the company’s personal hygiene and grooming products as well as its extensive medical equipment business, and Philips Lighting, the Dutch company’s original business that will focus on the growing LED smart lighting ecosystem market.

Bernd Laudahn, Philips’ managing director, laid out the company’s HealthTech continuum, consisting of products aimed at healthy living, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, recovery and home care.

Gibson, which bought Philips’ Woox personal audio business a year ago, announced it will officially become Gibson Innovations, an umbrella organization for a dozen or so brands including what was Philips/Woox but now will be branded Gibson, along with Onkyo, Teak, Fidelio headphones and wireless speakers, and Philips-branded audio and disc components in 93 markets outside the U.S.; Philips DVD and Blu-ray players in the U.S. are handled by Funai.
