Philips Debuts HD-PMP, Portable DTV

LAS VEGAS – Philips Consumer Lifestyle will unveil its first portable media player (PMP) that stores HD video and its first two ATSC-standard portable DTVs during International CES.

The portable TVs — one embedded in a portable DVD player — must be used in stationary mode because they do not support the ATSC M/H (mobile/handheld) standard.

Other new products include a portable AC/DC speaker dock and new MP3 players and PMPs.

The $149-suggested GoGear Muse is Philips’ first PMP to store HD video. It features 3.2-inch HVGA color touchscreen, 16GB embedded memory, 720p video storage, HDMI output, MicroSD card slot and FM radio with RDS, among other features. The unit can provide five hours of video playback on its rechargeable battery.

The $99-suggested Activa MP3 player is designed to capture workout data for exercise enthusiasts and display it in real time. Included PC software also tracks workout progress. The clip-on Activa comes with sweat-proof sports-type headphones.

The $49.99-suggested GoGear Vibe is a 4GB MP3 player with 1.5-inch color display, FM radio with RDS and 20 presets, voice recorder, FullSound compressed-audio enhancer, and storage of subscription-based music downloads from Napster and Rhapsody.

In docking speaker systems, the $99.99-suggested SBD7500 portable AC/DC speaker dock is iPhone-certified. It delivers eight hours of playback on its rechargeable batteries. A cable is included to connect other-brand MP3 players.

In portable DTV, the $149-suggested PVD900 features 9-inch 16:9 LCD display, embedded stereo speakers, three hours of viewing time on its rechargeable battery, and external telescoping rabbit-ear antenna with suction-cup mount. A remote is included.

A portable DVD player with embedded DTV tuner is the $179-suggested PET749 with 7-inch 16:9 LCD screen that swivels 180 degrees, included car adapter and remote control, up to three hours of TV viewing on a single charge, and playback of DivX, MP3 and JPEG-encoded discs.
