Pentax Unveils 3 Affordable Optio DSCs

Golden, Colo.
– Pentax Imaging unveiled Tuesday three Optio digital cameras designed to give
price-conscious shoppers a pair of well-featured value options.

The ultra-slim Pentax Optio
P80 (available in September at a $200 suggested retail) digital camera features
a lightweight design, 12.1-megapixel CCD imager, 4x wide angle optical zoom (27.5-110mm)
and 720p/30 fps HD video-capture capability.

The Optio E80 is the new E-series entry offering that will ship
in September at $130. It will feature a 10-megapixel CCD imager, a 3x wide
angle optical zoom (32-96mm) and 720p/15 fps HD video capture.

The Optio WS80 (shipping in September at $250) is Pentax’s newest
water-resistant digital camera model. It will ship in two his-and-hers designs
and will include a water- and dust-resistant case, 10-megapixel CCD, 5x
internal optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD screen.

The WS80’s case features a thin body design that can withstand
depths up to five feet (1.5 meters). It will also capture widescreen, HD video at
up to 720p/30 fps resolution.

Automatic features include Fast face-detection technology that sees
up to 32 faces in as little as 0.03 of a seconds; smile-capture technology that
automatically releases the shutter when a subject smiles; and blink detection,
which alerts the photographer if the subject’s eyes are closed when a picture
is shot.

An auto-picture mode automatically selects from eight shooting
modes, and the camera’s up to 6,400 ISO sensitivity boosts shutter speeds for
fast action and low-light shooting.

Pentax also includes its shake-reduction technology, with Pixel
Track SR, Digital SR and Movie SR, to stabilize images and video.

Meanwhile, the E80 will also include a 2.7-inch LCD monitor and
intuitive control layout, and is equipped with Pentax’s auto-picture mode that
automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode for a given subject or
scene.

It offers a AA-size battery power source, a 2.7-inch LCD monitor,
up to 6,400 ISO sensitivity, and face-detection system.

The Optio P80, meanwhile, features three color options of black, pearl
and mint. It includes a 2.7-inch LCD monitor, beginner-friendly controls and
high-resolution widescreen HD video capture.

Pentax also includes in the P80 its SR technology with Pixel
Track SR, Digital SR and Movie SR to reduce subject blurring, as well as the
Fast face-detection and blink-detection technologies. It also has the Pentax’s
auto-picture mode.

Pentax said it has improved the face-detection AF and AE function
on the P80 to now capture subject faces from an angle. It also added a more
responsive version of the auto-tracking AF function to keep an active subject
in constant focus.
