Pentax’s Bunnell To Retire Sept. 30

Denver, Co. – Ned Bunnell, president of Pentax’s American operations for the past seven years, will retire, effective Sept. 30, said Noboru Akahane, Pentax Ricoh Imaging, who will add Bunnell’s responsibilities to his current global role.

At the same time, James Malcolm will become Pentax Ricoh Imaging America executive VP, reporting to Akahane. Malcom will be responsible for the leadership and operations of the U.S. subsidiary.

Malcolm had been working with Ricoh in Japan on the post-acquisition integration of Pentax on a global basis.

According to a statement announcing the moves, Malcolm’s “insight and experience have set the direction and provided the vision needed to initiate management changes, including compliance with merger strategies.”

“We appreciate Ned’s considerable contributions and leadership of the Pentax operations in the U.S. over the past seven years,” Akahane said. “He has helped revitalize the Pentax brand and re-establish our relationship with key retailers both in the photo specialty channel and larger national chain stores and we wish him well.

“Given the market opportunity, North America is very important to our business,” Akahane continued. “There are a core group of Pentax and Ricoh fans here and we are confident to deliver high-quality products that will not only satisfy our current customers but also attract new customers through innovation and support of Ricoh’s global brand.”
