SAN FRANCISCO — The district court jury found Samsung violated the following six patents and Apple’s “trade dress” on one or more devices, court documents show.
Bounce-Back Effect: Technical Patent No. 7,469,381 “involves the bounce-back effect when a user scrolls to the end of a list on the iPhone and iPad. The jury found infringement in all Samsung devices.
On-Screen Navigation: Technical patent 7,884,915 “includes methods of touch-sensitive onscreen navigation, including the pinch-to-zoom gesture that users make when they want to magnify or reduct an image. The jurors found infringement by most of the Samsung models.”
Tap To Zoom: Technical patent 7,864,163 “includes the tap-to-zoom method that zeroes in on one displayed element. The jury found infringement by most of the Samsung models.”
iPhone Ornamental Design: Design patent D618677 “involves aspects of the iPhone’s ‘ornamental design,’ including the speaker slot, the front and the glass. The jury found infringement by a dozen Samsung models.”
iPhone Design: Design patent D593087 “also covers iPhone design: the home button, rounded corners and tapered edges. The jury found infringement by a few Samsung models.”
On-Screen Icons: Design patent D604305 “involves the icon arrangement in Apple’s operating system for the iPhone and iPad. The jury found infringement by all 13 models at issue.”
Trade Dress: Defined by the court as “what visually associates products with a particular provider,” the jurors “upheld Apple’s claims for only a few Samsung models.”
