Panasonic Showcases Tech At U.S. Open

Newark, N.J. – In its role as an official television, digital camera and home entertainment sponsor of the 2013 U.S. Open tennis tournament, Panasonic is giving tournament visitors demonstrations of its consumers and business technologies.

The U.S. Open began Monday and runs through Sept. 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

An additional business solutions showcase will provide a mirror of the technologies being demonstrated at the newly created Panasonic Innovation Center at the company’s relocated North American headquarters here.

The state-of-the-art, sustainable building was called “the embodiment of the company’s commitment to the environment and to meeting its goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 50 percent.”

The Panasonic building is adjacent to the Newark Penn Station transit hub, and enables employees to take advantage of a wide range of public transit options.

The Innovation Center, like the building itself, will formally open next month but is being previewed for business customers and stakeholders for the duration of the US Open.

The Innovation Center will present a number of zones featuring Panasonic’s technology solutions engineered for the home, industry, avionics environments, the connected car and eco solutions.

The Innovation Center is the first Panasonic showcase of its kind outside Japan, and brings Panasonic’s diverse technologies and capabilities in North America together in one location to improve accessibility for business customers.

“The U.S. Open presents a great opportunity for Panasonic to demonstrate for hundreds of thousands of tennis fans the solutions we provide to businesses to help them delight their customers,” said Joseph Taylor, Panasonic North America chairman and CEO. “In parallel we’re taking advantage of the proximity of our Innovation Center to show our business customers, especially those who are attending the Open, the kinds of technologies Panasonic can leverage to help create solutions for their challenges.”

The Panasonic Gallery, located on the ground level of Louis Armstrong Stadium, will offer a range of technology solutions. In addition, Panasonic Viera flat-panel displays will bring the action from center court to spectators and fans in all corners of the Tennis Center.

Fans can also capture the action on the court with Panasonic’s Lumix digital cameras available for use at the Lumix Lending Bars located in the South Plaza and adjacent to the Food Village.

Panasonic Avionics will present visitors with an airline seat they can sit in to watch a live feed of a match on a widescreen seatback display.

A Connected Car Console on display will demonstrate a touchscreen, voice activated control system and clear information. In addition, music fans can find an Aupeo! listening bar which simulates the audio experience Panasonic delivers to drivers throughout the world.

Aupeo! is a personalized audio streaming service available in vehicles around the globe which offers contextually relevant recommendations for streaming music, news, weather and information.

Panasonic is also providing U.S. Open fans 13 large video boards throughout the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, including Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, the Food Village and the South Plaza.
