Panasonic Adds 20mm/F1.7 Pancake Lens

New York – Panasonic introduced Thursday the addition of a new single focal length lens, the Lumix G 20mm/F1.7 II ASPH (H-H020A) to its Micro Four Thirds mirrorless compact system camera assortment.

The Lumix 20mm/F1.7 lens (selling online for a $400 retail price) offers a compact design and light weight, despite having a F1.7 aperture. The bright lens is said to produce a strong bokeh effect for close-ups.

It is comprised of seven lenses in five groups, using two aspherical lenses to minimize both distortion and chromatic aberration, for high corner-to-corner resolution.

Panasonic said the lens, which has a 40mm equivalent focal length in a full-frame 35mm camera, is suitable for wide variety of photography including scenery, sunsets and dimly lit indoor shots.

It supports the Contrast auto focus system.

Equipped with seven blades that produce a rounded aperture shape, the lens  produces an attractively smooth effect in unsharp areas when shooting at large aperture settings.

The Lumix G 20mm/F1.7 II ASPH, also features a metal mount, and uses multi-coated lens elements to minimize ghosts and flaring.
