Palm OS Leads U.S. Smartphone Share

Sunnyvale, Calif. — PalmSource said its Palm OS is now the leading smartphone operating system in the US, citing data released by the NPD group in Port Washington, N.Y.

Palm OS-based smartphones exceeded Microsoft and Symbian Series 60 smartphones in market share combined, said PalmSource. NPD’s data placed Palm based smartphones at 47 percent of the market, an increase in market share of 13 points over January. PalmSource said Microsoft and Symbian each had a 20 percent share, according to NPD. PalmSource credited the rising sales of the palmOne Treo 600 and continued sales of smartphones from Kyocera and Samsung for the increase.
