Palm Announces New Wireless Deals

New Orleans, La. – PalmSource announced two partnerships that will allow cellular carriers to wirelessly deliver Palm applications to smartphones and allow access to firewall-protected applications.

PalmSource reported at the CTIA show being held here this week, it will work with Qualcomm to allow over-the-air downloads of Palm OS applications to Palm powered devices using Qualcomm’s BREW Distribution System (BDS). This collaboration would allow users wireless access to potentially 17,000 Palm applications.

Palm also announced it will work with Spontaneous Technologies to set up a virtual private network (VPN) to allow Palm users access to enterprise applications located behind firewalls via a 2.5G/3G wide area data network. Spontaneous Technology’s VPN software will be integrated with Palm’s Hotsync software, said Palm.
